URM and Sea Eagles celebrate 25 years UNITED

In Rugby League and sport in general, many sponsors come and go, but that is certainly not the case when it comes to URM and our support of Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.

Throughout this year, URM and the Sea Eagles will celebrate twenty-five consecutive years of partnership together. A quarter of a century that has included five Grand Finals, two Premierships and a World Club Challenge Championship.

Season 2021 will also be URM’s fifth consecutive season as Major Partner, with URM branding to again feature front and centre on the Sea Eagles home and away jerseys.

Today URM and the Sea Eagles launch their ‘25 Years UNITED’ campaign, which also coincides with the Sea Eagles’ 75th anniversary year and the 50th year that the URM Group has served the Northern Beaches community.

The URM Sea Eagles ‘25 Years UNITED’ campaign will feature prominently across the Northern Beaches and at home games throughout the season, highlighting some of the key moments from the past twenty-five years of partnership together.

The Sea Eagles first home game of NRL Season 2021, Round 2 (Saturday 20 March) against South Sydney Rabbitohs, will be a celebration of ‘25 Years UNITED’ with URM.

“The last twenty-five years has certainly been an interesting journey and it’s a fantastic milestone,” said URM Managing Director, Anthony Johnston.

“We’ve always supported Manly, but we got on board officially as sponsors way back in 1997 when their survival in the NRL was at stake.

“We have increased the support over the years and more recently on the front of jerseys as Major Partner.

“As for moments that stand out, there are so many.

“We became the Northern Eagles and we became Sea Eagles again, we went on to win two Premierships and a World Cup Challenge, and we have been runners up on two occasions.

“What stands out more than the Club’s on-field success however, is the community culture that exists at Manly and the really community focused activities and engagement we continue to do together, getting more kids and families to the footy and helping to promote healthy and sustainable lifestyles across the Northern Beaches and further afield.”

Sea Eagles Chairman, Scott Penn, praised the amazing support of URM, saying “Twenty-five years of consecutive sponsorship in sport isn’t something we hear of too often.

“URM has become synonymous with the Sea Eagles and we are very fortunate to have them as such a fantastic long term partner of our Club.

“As the URM business has continued to grow, the support back into the community has also continued to increase and we are just one of many organisations who continue to benefit from URM’s strong community focus and support.”

URM is one of Australia’s largest privately owned resource recovery and recycling companies and is also the UK’s largest glass recycler.

Sea Eagles Legend Steve Menzies is one of many at the Club who has built a strong relationship with URM over the years and ‘Beaver’ caught up with URM Managing Director, Anthony Johnston, at URM HQ recently to relive some great memories and to find out more about the company.
